We got to the moon, but there are still some things left uninvented

1. Male birth control

News articles from papers as The Guardian dates back to the 1970s describing successful attempts and trials of male birth control. Most papers at that time also predicted contraceptive pills for men would be available in the coming decade. Almost 50 years later, birth control is still not available for the male part of the population. As the reddit user eeeponthemove put it,

“ it makes more sense to unload the gun than to shoot at a bulletproof vest”

2. Big data-Tinder

Remember the feeling of being on a tinder date? Your date is loud, annoying and does not share your values at all.

Most people had this experience. Not once or twice but several times. All while these tech companies have access to big data about us. They know our dating history and how we like to interact with people. If we talk to our friends often and were we like to eat our dinner. They know if we go on a run on a Friday after work or if prefer to stay at home and watch Netflix all night. They know what values respond to us and sometimes they even know our credit scores.

If that isn’t a perfect basis to build an intelligent and a more honest dating app, then I don’t know what is! And all we got was this lousy swiping app.

3. Bioreplacement for big bones

We can print bone structure. If you have a damaged cartilage in the knee, hospitals can 3D-print replacement parts. We can 3D print houses we plan to put on Mars. But if you damaged a big bone as the ones in your legs there is currently no possbility to replace that bone with biomaterial. Somehow scientists have just not yet tried this on a bigger scale.

Luckily the companies Xilloc with CT-bone and Cellink are trying to solve this issue. Let’s see what the future brings. One thing is certain, you’ll never know.
